Canada HealthLabs is a non-profit organization building a cross-Canada network of labs conducting COVID-19 reassurance/green light testing with best-in-class efficiency. CHL provides a COVID-19 testing solution that uses Canadian technology and ingenuity. CHL is creating new lab capacity in Canada by assembling a group of physicians, scientists, and laboratory leaders who have built, optimized, and enhanced a wide variety of labs, including large-scale private operations. As a research organization, CHL operates outside the clinical and public health laboratory systems, but maintains close links with both.
CHL emerged from the success of McMaster HealthLabs (MHL) - a team of scientists and doctors affiliated with McMaster University and The Research Institute of St. Joe's Hamilton. MHL is concentrating on COVID-19 research and testing. As MHL's parent organization, CHL takes the best of the MHL model and expands it, working with other Canadian universities and research organizations across the country.
CHL is focused on curbing the human, economic, and social costs of COVID-19. Its reassurance testing solution and evaluation of new COVID-19 test technologies will help Canadian leaders reopen the economy and create plans to live with COVID-19.
No country can just ride this out until we have a vaccine. We must all learn to control and manage this virus using the tools we have now… We do not need to choose between lives and livelihoods, or between health and the economy. That's a false choice. On the contrary, the pandemic is a reminder that health and the economy are inseparable.
